sql db name 'root' password: local283283

You had the right idea but not the correct order.

1) go to phpmyadmin. 2) open a sql window

type:

update mysql.user set password = password('password') where user='root' and host='localhost';

3) open config.inc.php in a text editor and change your password you used to update your root mysql user.

failing that

open a command line interface.

navigate to your mysql\bin directory: cd mysql\bin type: mysql -u root mysql

if the password is already changed: type: mysql -u root -p mysql

at mysql prompt type:

update mysql.user set password = password('password') where user='root' and host='localhost';
