HISTORY: While the recorded history of the Tunica United Methodist Church is sketchy at best, it is believed that the first church was constructed in 1854 by Bro. John Leeders for a cost of $169.00. The original building was thought to have been part of an old Masonic Lodge located near the present site of Wimbish Cemetery, known locally as Rogillio Cemetery. The current sanctuary was constructed in 1907 during the pastorate of Rev. J.L. Sutton. The church was moved to its present location in 1950. The property for the church was donated by a life-long member, Mrs. Mary Reily Wilkinson. On September 23, 2007, over 150 friends, family, community leaders, and members of the congregation joined in worship to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the sanctuary.
Pastor Mike Clark has served as pastor of Tunica UMC since June, 2007. Mike is a supervisor for the West Feliciana Parish School System and serves the Tunica congregation in a part-time capacity. The pastor’s address is P.O. Box 744, St. Francisville, LA. 70775, and can be reached by phone at 225-635-6293.
